How To Fight With Ads
You are tired of watching these annoying ads, dumb frames and text ads? You want to view your sites without not needed additional stuff? If yes you should read this tutorial, I will show you how to fight with ads efficiently.
First of all we will need:
Firefox 1.x or 2.x browser (can be downloaded here)
Extension for Firefox: Adblock or Adblock Plus (I recommend to use second one since it lets you to use ready to use filter subscriptions)
Now when your Adblock or Adblock Plus is installed you need to learn how to create your own filter rules. After first run of Adblock Plus it will ask you to download ready to use filter files, but we want to create own one right? So let's start.
For example we want to block annoying ads on torrentspy.com, as you can see on the top of the site and on the bottom and in the right panel menu there are ads like a banners, buttons and build-in frames. Let's say that we want to block these banners. To do that you need it click right mouse button over the image and from content menu choose Adblock image, now Adblock's menu appears and you can apply the rule. The rule looks like: http://ad1.someserver.com/images/something.jpg you can leave it like this if you just want to block a specific image but you can also block all ads on the site by using wildcard. To do that you can set new filter like this http://ad1.* now after ad1. the * sign appears it means all files after ad1. will be removed. Now refresh the site and as you can see most of the adds dissapeared.
Now let's fight with some frames. In the right control panel on the bottom there is one that you can block to do that mouse over it and click RMB and use Adblock frame option from content menu. The source of the frame is like a http://smile.modchipstore.com/revsense/index.php?something.html you can block only this specific frame but we want to block everything what hides before and after /revsense/ folder to do that simply create rule called */revsense/* it will let you to block more frames that use the same ad system.
On many sites there is build-in google's pagead system that let's users to get rich but also piss off many people by annoying info in the frames. If you do not like it simply create rule called http://pagead2.* or */pagead/* now google page ads will not annoy you anymore.
There is a lot of ultimate rules that could be used always for example:
http://www.adtology*
http://ads.*
*advertisement*
.gemius.
*/viewad/*
And much, much more, you can also use ready filter files created by "maniacs" of ads fighting. Most of them is listed here: http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions.
There is also a way to fight with text ads that can not be blocked like a standard frames, images etc. ads. To do that you need special extension called Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper. I highly recommend to use subscripted rules file for it because fighting with text ads is a little bit annoying. If you want to subscribe it directly click here. Anyway I will show you how to block simple text ad.
Enter nforce.nl common site for most of us. Now on the top and right you can see build-in nudity releated ads. To block them push Ctrl+Shift+H combination now you can highlight what you want to block and choose the right frame and click LMB. Now Element Hider's menu will appear and you will be able to choose how you want to blick this content. The rule should appear like this nforce.nl#DIV(id=rightdiv) unfortunately it is not the standard add so you need to block it like this. Anyway there are most common text ads like #*(id=adContent) and much, much more.
I got hope that this tutorial helped you much and now you know how to fight with ads efficiently.
